TATIANA JOHNSON
*1973, Poland. Lives and works in Bern, Switzerland.
Tatiana Johnson is a Polish-American artist based in Bern, Switzerland. She holds an MFA from Zurich University of the Arts and works across photography, textile processes, and spatial installation. Her practice explores how photographic images can be transformed through material processes and spatial installation, becoming responsive surfaces shaped by light, shadow, movement, and encounter.
Working with sublimation printing on textile, stitching, layering, and constructed supports, Johnson creates works that respond to changing conditions and the viewer’s position in space. Fragments, seams, shadows, and supporting structures remain visible within her installations, allowing images to unfold across multiple material and spatial layers. Rather than resolving these elements into a unified whole, her work explores how distinct forms can remain separate while entering into relation.
